Here we go....

Friends, I’m not sure where to start, but I do know that I can no longer stay silent.  Those who are very close to me know that I’ve been on a journey for the past 10+ years to know myself.  I wasn’t exactly sure how to start sharing my story but I do think it’s an important part of my healing, and MORE IMPORTANTLY, I THINK IT SHOULD BE PART OF OUR COUNTRY’S HEALING.

I’m going to share some stories and experiences on this blog so that I am not inundating my Facebook feed.   I believe in the power of social media, but I do not like to use it to air all of my dirty laundry.  I realize that over the past 3 months my Facebook Feed has become political, and at times angry.  When I began on Facebook, I had a rule for myself that I used social media only to promote my business and I tried to keep my personal life private.  Unfortunately, everything that has affected me personally has also affected my business so I no longer know how to “divide” myself into 2 categories.

For this reason, I am going to start utilizing the Indian Lake Resort blog to share more stories and insight.  I will try to be honest while protecting the others involved in my story.  Let me explain why I need to protect these people….  1.  I was never intentionally hurt by the people who love me.  2.  I have forgiven everyone who had a part in every experience.   3.  My traumas were not imposed on me in hate, actually most people were trying to protect me out of love.  4. I am breaking my silence so that others can be set free.

I have seen the power of what the truth has done for my family over the past month.  Please do not suffer alone in silence.  Know that if you are a good person and live a good life, the past is the past.  Focus on the future.

I am going to test out a blog focused on the fun things that we are doing at Indian Lake Resort, and occasionally, I will throw in a story about my past or explain why I see things a certain way.  BEAR WITH ME, I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL BLOGGER AND I’M TESTING THIS OUT TO SEE IF I CAN HELP OTHERS.

Those who know me well, know that I try to stand up for injustices.  And some of those people know why I do it.  Most don’t (and probably just think I am very political).  I actually HATE politics.  I also HATE injustice.   I stand up and scream from the rooftops when I see injustice.  Maybe you’ll be interested in finding out why I scream and maybe you won’t.  That’s ok with me.  This blog is not for me to stroke my ego.  I am hear to speak for the millions of people in the world that may not be able to speak for themselves.

You’re about to understand that there is a lot more to this middle class white woman who went to college, attained her CPA, was a partner in a private equity firm, and then quit it all 11 years later to sell used kids shoes.  Ever wonder why anyone would throw away a 6 figure salary to make less than $30k per year?   It’s taken me over a decade (and a couple nervous breakdowns) to get to the point where I’m willing to speak.  Please listen if you like and be kind if you don’t like what I am doing.  Know that this is part of my healing, it is not about you.

In the meantime, you can follow my blog here and I’m going to be as honest as I can while protecting the innocent.  By the way, I am super sarcastic, so please know that going into it.

For everyone who has been asking about Indian Lake Resort rentals this season…. We have made the decision to not rent the cottages during the pandemic.  We are actually living in the cottages this season while we continue to renovate the property.  Why did we make this decision?  We have 9 family members living here, 4 adults, 4 teens, and 1 tween.  Of those 9 people, 2 have asthma and 2 are over the age of 65.  As they fall into the high risk category for COVID 19, we are not willing to risk the lives of our family members during this pandemic.  No amount of rental income is worth that risk to us.

Instead, we’d love to entertain you with all of the fun projects that we are working on and some stories along the way.  By the way, I am sheltered here with 2 musicians, so I am in heaven!  Live music around the campfire is about to become my life (as soon as the North winds stop blowing J).  I plan to livestream some amazing music for all the music lovers out there who are missing live shows as much as I am.

BE KIND to each other and most importantly, STAND UP FOR EACH OTHER!

Why Did We Buy a Resort?

"Why did you buy a resort?"  Mike and I have gotten this question a lot over the last year.  We realized that there isn't a quick or easy answer to this question.  Owning a resort wasn't part of our long-term plan but we are definitely becoming better at trusting the journey and following our guts.  Warning, I'm going to tell the long story of how we got to this newest adventure (feel free to stop reading now if this doesn't interest you).
This story starts more than a decade ago.  Mike and I were living in Deerfield, we both worked hard and were successful in our careers.  Our offices were a couple blocks apart in Chicago's financial district.  We were also expecting our first child... we made plenty of money to hire full time child care and continue following our successful career paths but something shifted in both of us.  Months into interviewing child care providers, we just couldn't make a decision that made us happy.  After much discussion, I …

Why now?

Some may be wondering why I am publicly speaking about myself now.  Honestly, I believe it is part of my journey.  I've been feeling called to write a book since I was a teenager.
Since the pandemic began, I have been glued to the news and I have been SCARED.  Yes, this disease is scary and yes, the world is a mess.

That is not what has been bothering me... THE BLATANT WAY THAT WE, AS A NATION, HAVE BEEN IGNORING THE FACTS... THAT SCARES THE SHIT OUT OF ME.  So, I've been trying to scream from the rooftops.  I have now had every person in my life tell me that I am getting too worked up and political.  I have been told to calm down, just live my life, and try not to stress.  I have been using my anxiety as an excuse for my behavior.  Yes, I have anxiety, but so do millions of others.  I discovered that as I use my anxiety as my excuse, I am making myself look weak and broken in other's eyes.  I am being treated with kid gloves.
